APAC Leadership Hiring

Prior to starting Conduit, Gabriel and Michael were founding members of Uber’s APAC Executive Recruiting team. They supported the hiring of over 100 executives across ten markets, including Japan, South Korea, India, Singapore, and Australia.

Based in Tokyo, they were also early members of Uber’s Japan office, contributing to its growth from a 30-person team to over 500. They were involved in building teams that supported the expansion of Uber’s mobility, delivery, engineering and corporate hiring across core Asia Pacific markets.

Our Journey at Uber

In 2019, Gabriel and Michael launched Uber's APAC Executive Recruiting team, tasked with finding the leadership talent to fuel regional growth. During their time at Uber, they went on to hire hundreds of leaders across key APAC markets, while also refining Uber's global executive search team processes. Their journey at Uber is outlined below.

  • Following its IPO, Uber wanted to launch an internal executive search practice to build the APAC leadership team it needed to scale its operations across the region.goes here

  • COVID-19 disrupts the world. Uber Eats becomes #1 in Japan. Uber's need for strong leaders only grows.

  • Building on 2020's momentum, APAC Executive Recruiting expands their leadership recruiting efforts to include key engineering and all non-tech roles across APAC.

  • Record year for leadership hiring in APAC. The APAC Executive Recruiting team expands from three to six members

  • Uber posts its first quarterly operating profit and sets its sights on moving from 1-10 to 10-100 as a company. This prompted searches for leaders experienced in such transitions.

  • Uber continues its profitable growth, driven by expansion beyond Rides and Eats into areas like Grocery & Retail and Uber for Business. This growth strategy put APAC in the spotlight.
